CATCH - Satellite Centre for Advanced Training
Contemporary Hub (2011)
Throughout spring/summer 2011 The Point
has worked with The Place, London, to provide a Satellite
strand to their prestigious Centre for Advanced Training (CAT)
programme, in order to give local gifted and talented young dancers
the chance to access exciting training opportunities at both The
Point and The Place.
CATCH consisted of two main parts:
1. A series of technique classes with Alasdair
Stewart, former London Contemporary Dance School student and dancer
from the internationally renowned Motionhouse Dance Theatre
2. A three-day choreography intensive with all
male dance company, Udifydance
Company, where the group worked with co-artistic
directors Chris Reynolds and Chay Burrows to make a piece to
perform in The Place CAT Summer Showcase. This performance took
place at the Robin Howard Theatre, London on Saturday
30th July 2011, and saw The Point CATCH group perform
alongside current and alumi CAT students in their celebratory end
of year performances.
As well as these opportunities the group also
had the chance to attend a CAT taster day, where they experienced
what is was like to be a CAT student and got tickets to watch
ReFresh, a youth dance event involving commissions from
some of the most prestigious choreographers like Richard
Alston and Jasmin Vardimon.
Taking part in the CATCH Project were 10 young
dancers aged 12 – 16yrs, who were all selected from
The Point Youth Dance
Company on the basis of talent, potential and
willingness to commit to the project.
