We run visual arts and crafts sessions as well
as dance classes for older people in the local area. The health and
social benefits of art for older people is well documented, but
here are just a few that we think are key
- Creating art can encourage mental
awareness
- Being part of an active class can build confidence,
boost self-esteem and reduce isolation
- Regular participation in dance can help
strengthen all major muscle groups and improve the suppleness of
joints
- Dance in particular can improve co-ordination and manual
dexterity needed for a fully independent lifestyle
- Learning new skills can assist memory function
