Themed tablecloths, a stunning birthday cake and a bespoke memory room - The Point’s 20th Birthday Party was a celebration of two decades of contribution to the community through the arts, and many joined in on the fun.

The Point’s 20th Birthday Party was an opportunity for the community to share in the festivities as staff transformed the venue into a space for the sharing of memories, and artists, staff and audiences all came together to celebrate.

While the weather threatened to dampen events, the festivities – attended by more than 200 people – saw the sun peak through as The Jiving Lindy Hoppers showcased The Charleston and families enjoyed a picnic, accompanied by a live band motivating many to get up and start dancing.

With an inspiring speech from Cheryl Butler, Head of Culture and one of the founders of The Point, many heard of the positive transformation that has taken place over two decades. From refurbishing the building to house an auditorium, to Phase3 which has seen the Creation Space play host to emerging and acclaimed artists from around the world, to two annual festivals.

“Everyone deserves to have the best art possible, and that’s what we’ve tried to bring to The Point”. – Cheryl Butler.

The 20th Birthday Party also saw pop-up performances from The Point Youth Theatre, giving audiences a sneak preview of what they can expect from the wonderfully kooky Alice’s Adventures in July, and youth group Street to the Point with their own style of outdoor theatre.

The afternoon of fun came complete with a dance workshop in the Creation Space, plenty of tea and cake to go around, face-painting, and a memory room filled with materials for party-goers to share old memories and make new ones. With a strong sense of community at the centre of everything The Point does, it was a brilliant free family day for all.

“The 20th Birthday Party was a wonderful success, with 250 community members celebrating with us. To have the Jiving Lindy Hoppers back with us for the event was fantastic as they were the first performers here 20 years ago! We had a great time celebrating and we can’t wait to show you what’s next!”
