In July The Point presented Dance Lab; four days of dance development designed for professionals, undergraduates, teachers and emerging artists. Bespoke workshops took place 26th to 29th July as four companies led immersive courses with the want to engage and inspire participants.
Over four days 83 dancers aged 17-53 attended workshops, helmed respectively by Kristina Alleyne of Alleyne Dance, Avant Garde Dance, Lîla Dance and Ben Wright of bgroup. The companies worked closely with attendees to refresh, and encourage, new and original ideas.
Dance Lab is one of many professional training schemes, presented by The Point and the venue’s Agent for Dance Excellence KJ Mortimer, aimed at those wanting to invest valuable time in their practice. A powerhouse for contemporary dance, The Point supports the growth of artists from around the country through professional training days and youth opportunities.
Dance Lab is one of nine exclusive participatory days held at the Eastleigh arts hub between May and August, with workshops tailored for people of all ages and abilities including a Week of Dance for Boys aged 8-18, skills-based Circus courses by Metta Theatre and a summer edition of Café Choreographique.
