Opportunities
The Artists’ Quarters scheme offers a unique
one year opportunity for four graduate or early career artists or
companies based in the south east region, artists who think they
would benefit from a period of structured support, enabling them to
develop artistically and find a market for their work.
Sharing a fully equipped office in The Point,
the quartered artists will be part of an established creative
industries hub comprising: The Point, Eastleigh Borough Council’s
Creative Learning team, Hampshire Dance and the commercial film
production company Cass Productions.
The scheme guarantees:
- Artistic mentorship
- Studio space and theatre production time
- Regular contact with Point patrons and visiting artists
- Concessionary and complimentary tickets to performances
- Opportunities to show work and gain professional feedback with
a view to presenting work as part of the professional
programme
- Specialist training as part of the Space for Ideas
programme
- Scheduled briefing and mentoring sessions with Point staff
covering the areas of arts administration and financial management,
marketing and audience development and technical production.
- Specialist advice and guidance in the development of business
skills will be provided by the economic development unit of
Eastleigh Borough Council and there will be facilitated access to
regional networks and showcases (Café Culture, CIBAS, Business
Link).
- Support from a dedicated Creative Producer
- Scheduled rehearsal and performance space up to an equivalent
value of £3,000 over the twelve month residency period
- Office space: the shared use of a fully
equipped office space with computer terminals, printer, meeting
desk and designated phone line; access to the office is via The
Point’s main entrance and is therefore accessible during usual
hours of operation
- IT support: the scheme includes ongoing IT
maintenance and technical support provided by the Borough Council's
IT team
- Reception services: The Point's box office
staff act as receptionists, welcoming and directing visitors on
behalf of its tenant companies and organisations
- Cafe Bar and catering: the Cafe Bar is open
daily and as well as being used as a meeting / gathering space can
be provided for meeting and events as required
- Expertise and resources: quartered artists
will be able to draw on the experience and knowledge of Point staff
working in the artistic, administrative, marketing, audience
development, creative learning and technical areas of its
operation; a total of 30 staff days will be collectively available
to quartered artists each year
- Performance tickets: each quarted artist /
company will be allocated two complimentary tickets for each
theatre and dance performance in the main house where there is
capacity; where a show sells out, or where further tickets are
required by each company, these can be purchased at concessionary
rate
- Audiences: quartered artists have
opportunities to get feedback from and engage in discussions with,
audience members via pre and post-show events, open rehearsals and
in-progress showings
Quartered artists have the opportunity to
fully participate in the life and work of The Point and to become
an important part of its creative team. Artists selected for the
scheme will therefore be required to make a commitment to working
in the building during their period of residency.
