Hampshire Youth Dance Company is an audition-based company, training Hampshire’s elite young dancers. HYDC meet every Friday night, 6-8pm in the dance studio at The Point, Eastleigh. Regular sessions consist of a demanding technique class, improvisation and choreographic tasks alongside rehearsals for upcoming performances. With access to an advanced training programme, performances across the country and the opportunity to work with leading industry professionals, HYDC offers passionate and committed young dancers a way to establish connections in the broader dance community. This company is great for anyone wishing to further their dance training, with previous members now at schools such as Rambert School of Ballet and Contemporary, Trinity Laban, Northern School of Contemporary Dance, London Studio Centre and Bird College. Through contemporary dance, company members will develop the necessary performance skills and audition technique, ready for the next steps in their dance career.
Each year, The Point commissions a well-known dance company to create a work on HYDC, ahead of their tour. Previous companies include Matthew Bourne’s New Adventures, Richard Alston Dance Company and Shobana Jeyasingh Dance Company.
Rehearsal Director Tory East also choreographs a work which is put forward to U.Dance, the youth national dance festival. In both 2016 and 2017, HYDC were successful in being selected to attend the three day national festival in July alongside 19 other companies.
