Hampshire Youth Dance Company still creating new work from home

The young talents from Hampshire Youth Dance Company, usually based at The Point have been busy creating two short films from their own homes.

The two films inspired by their current situation, 'Connection Point' and 'Until We Met Again', were directed by HYDC Rehearsal Director Tory East and choreographed by the dancers themselves.

As a close company, we really wanted to create something that demonstrated a sense of togetherness and felt empowering during this time.

Tory said:

'During the Easter Holidays, our HYDC Dancers normally spend the week working with third-year students from Rambert School who are commissioned to create two new works with the company. Due to Covid-19, this was unable to take place, so HYDC decided to create their own digital residency and explore how we might still be able to create and dance together.

'Our 22 dancers divided into two casts, working simultaneously alongside each other via Zoom. Dancers generated material through creative responses to tasks. These tasks also involved being inspired by our current surroundings and the emotions we have experienced whilst self-isolating and social distancing. As a close company, we really wanted to create something that demonstrated a sense of togetherness and felt empowering during this time.'
