Hampshire Youth Dance Company selected to represent South West region at prestigious U.Dance 2019 Festival

Hampshire Youth Dance Company (HYDC) The Point, Eastleigh’s audition based dance company have fought off tough competition to win a place to perform at the prestigious U.Dance 2019 Festival and represent the South West region.

Based at The Point, Eastleigh HYDC provides pre-professional training and performance experience of the highest quality for aspiring young dancers across the region, aged between 13 and 21 years old.

The Company were selected to attend the U.Dance South West Regional Platform, hosted by Dance In Devon earlier this month, which saw 14 groups taking part in workshops and later performing their work.

The venue is thrilled that HYDC were shortlisted and then selected by the National Panel to represent the South West Region at U.Dance 2019; One Dance UK’s flagship youth event. The event provides the focal point for the U.Dance national performance framework and youth dance performances taking place across the country, including National Theatre, Rambert and BFI Southbank and London’s Southbank Centre (buy tickets at www.southbankcentre.co.uk).

HYDC’s Director Tory East said:

Notes to Editor

HYDC’s year-long training is supported by the Linbury Trust, the Company follows a carefully designed programme to develop aspiring young dancers' technique, creative and performance skills as well as audition preparation and support for those wishing to pursue dance and the arts further.

The Company’s weekly rehearsals take place at The Point on Fridays from 5.30pm to 8.30pm during term time.

HYDC members train in contemporary dance alongside this, members are provided with ballet and safe barre sessions as the foundation of all dance styles. Ballet supports their technical development and sessions are delivered with the contemporary dance body in mind. In addition, supplementary techniques such as improvisation, yoga and body conditioning are also integrated into the training programme.
