Opportunity to be part of The Point’s Associate Artists programme

The Point, Eastleigh is now seeking applications from early career artists to join its celebrated Associate Artist  programme for 2020 to 2021.

Supported by Arts Council England, the programme is now moving into its eleventh year, with a host of success stories behind the scheme. Previous artists having gone on to become Arts Council National Portfolio Organisations (ZoieLogic Dance Theatre), win Fringe First Awards (Milk Presents), Total Theatre Awards (Two Destination Language), receive commissions (Joli Vyann) and tour nationally and internationally (Theatre Re).

The one-year programme aims to support the creative practice and organisational development of emerging makers and practitioners who are keen to progress to the next stage.

This year the venue is looking for four artists or companies working in a performance context, which can include theatre, circus, dance, aerial dance, integrated arts and outdoor arts.

Amy Morvell, a current Associate Artist said of the scheme with her company Morvell Dance said: "My time as an Associate Artist with The Point has been incredible. The level of support from everyone has been so brilliant and I feel like I’m part of The Point family now.”

Vicki Hargreaves, Artist Development Producer at The Point said: “During a structured period of support, The Point aims to enable artists to develop artistically and identify appropriate markets for their work. We are looking for talented makers with a strong vision, and a clear sense of artistic direction as well as an understanding of the sector.

There are a host of benefits of being an Associate Artist ranging from one-to-one mentoring, administrative and technical support, space in-kind and networking and performance opportunities with access to seed funding.

In return we advocate that artists are involved in the venues community programme across the year, conduct open rehearsals and Q&As, and act as active ambassadors for the organisation.”

Applications need to be in by Friday 24th January 2020 at 12 noon with interviews on Friday 14th February 2020.
