Point Theatre and Pride secure funding for Jubilee project, party and exhibition

The Point Eastleigh’s plans to celebrate Her Majesty The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee have been boosted by a community funding award.

The arts venue, working in partnership with Eastleigh Pride, has been awarded £10,000 from the Arts Council’s Let’s Create Jubilee Fund by Hampshire and Isle of Wight Community Foundation (HIWCF).

The award will support Pride and The Point’s collaboration to ensure that the voices and experiences of the LGBTQ+ community are included in the commemoration of this historic event. The project will culminate with The Queens’ Garden Party event on Thursday 2 June during the Jubilee bank holiday weekend.

Let’s Create is made possible thanks to the National Lottery and is administered by UK community foundations on behalf of Arts Council England.

The Point is owned and operated by Eastleigh Borough Council.

Charlotte Hall, Creative Director of The Point Eastleigh said: “We are thrilled to be awarded this funding to work with Eastleigh Pride to deliver a project to mark the Queen’s Jubilee that ensures LGBTQ+ lives, experiences and culture are included in the way Eastleigh

celebrates. We have some fantastic plans up our sleeves, contributing to celebrations taking place across the Borough and creating a Jubilee we will never forget.”

Dannon Robinson, Founder and Director of Eastleigh Pride, said: “This is an exciting moment for Eastleigh Pride and for local LGBTQ+ people who can look forward to celebrating the Jubilee in an inclusive and supportive environment and having a really fantastic time.”

Darren Henley, Chief Executive at Arts Council England, said “The Let’s Create Jubilee Fund is a wonderful example of our ambition to give everyone the opportunity to participate in and experience the arts, culture and creativity – made possible thanks to National Lottery players.”

Jacqui Scott, CEO at HIWCF said, “We would like to thank the National Lottery and Arts Council England for this exciting opportunity to celebrate our shared cultural history, and we are looking forward to seeing an extraordinary range of activities that reflect the diverse nature of our communities.”
