The Point announces 2020 to 2021 cohort of Associate Artists

We are thrilled to announce our new wave of Associate Artists for 2020/21. The three selected artists and companies, working across contemporary performance have been working closely with the venue from the start of this month.

Our flagship Associate Artist programme, made possible with thanks to the venue’s Arts Council England NPO funding, offers artists and companies - working across all disciplines - the opportunity to work closely with the venue to grow their practice and develop as a professional company or practitioners.

The programme was created in 2009 and over the last ten years artists supported by the programme have gone on to succeed in developing ground breaking sustainable careers and companies. Past associates include ZoieLogic Dance Theatre, who have now become an Arts Council National Portfolio Organisation, critically acclaimed Milk Presents, and Two Destination Language, who have won numerous Awards and Digital dance artist, Katie Dale Everett who is a Studio Wayne McGregor QuestLab artist.

Our Associate Artist programme is one of the venue’s three pivotal artist support systems, designed to support and nurture artists and companies at different stages in their professional careers.

Artist Development Producer Vicki Hargreaves said: “The Associate programme goes from strength to strength each year and at times where we need it most, these programmes are here to support artists to develop ideas and flourish, growing their practise and develop sustainable and resilient creative businesses.

“We are extremely excited to be able to offer bespoke packages to fit with the needs and wants of each artist and we can’t wait to get started!”

The Point’s 2020/21 Associate Artists are: Curious Pheasant, a Hampshire-based company who explore traditional pieces of theatre in non-traditional ways; Gemma Kerr, a director and theatre-maker working across the country focusing on new writing, site-responsive performance and socially engaged work; and Sophie Ross, a video content producer and editor of online craft/kids’ activity tutorials.

As Associate Artists for 2020/21, the three selected artists will receive vital mentoring and developmental support from our creative team including access to the venue’s on-site Creation Space, allowing them time in residence to create new touring work. They will also be involved in community outreach projects, delivering workshops and engaging local residents in the borough of Eastleigh.

We will continue to work closely with our cohort of Supported Artists and five @HOME artists as part of our Arts Council National Portfolio funding; internationally renowned physical theatre company Theatre Re, boundary blurring aerial-circus-dance company Joli Vyann, leading aerial dance company Gravity & Levity, innovative contemporary performance company Lîla Dance and noted family theatre company Stuff & Nonsense Theatre Company.
