The Point’s set to shimmer with new Moving You installation

A stunning new art installation has been added to the outer wall of The Point Eastleigh.

The shimmering sign is composed of 4,200 tiny discs and rivet nuts and reacts by moving when the wind blows.

Funded by Arts Council England, the work has been designed by artist Jo Fairfax and made by Stage One Creative Services. Jo is a NESTA Fellow and has been designing for public and private spaces since 1996. His designs cover sculptural lighting, architectural glass, public squares, public art, sculptural seating, digital film, interactive film and lighting for dance.

Stage One are specialist engineering world leaders in the creative industries. Their previous work includes the opening ceremony of the London 2012 Olympic Games and the set of television’s The Voice.

Artistic Director of The Point Sacha Lee said: “This beautiful work of art is the first of three surprise commissions from Jo Fairfax. The installation signifies the importance of our audiences, participants, community and artists, putting you at the centre of our building and all that we do. This bold and inviting message roots the building as part of our community for all to enjoy.”

Chair of Eastleigh Local Area Committee Cllr Tina Campbell added: “The Point is a regional powerhouse for artists and our community. It is brilliant to see such an imaginative way of drawing attention to this historic and significant building.

“This new installation is the perfect spot for a selfie before or after attending a show, a class or paying a visit to the Café!”
