Richard Alston Dance Company comes to The Point this March with an ensemble of talented emerging dancers presenting a unique programme of new and classic work, introduced by Richard Alston himself, and created especially for the intimate space of the Eastleigh venue.
The Point is delighted to welcome acclaimed choreographer and dancer Richard Alston to the venue this March for two nights of exclusive dance performance. The evening is part of The Point’s fantastic programme of Spring dance, which features an exclusive sneak peak at Alston’s newly created piece, An Italian in Madrid. BBC Young Dancer grand finalist Vidya Patel joins the company, bringing her innovative language of Kathak into the performance.
Richard Alston Dance Company’s unique dance includes excerpts from the hip-hop inspired piece Nomadic, male duet Mazur set to Chopin Mazurkas, and the classic Alston piece Dutiful Ducks, danced here by National Dance Award Nominee Liam Riddick. The company also presents Stronghold created by Associate Choreographer Martin Lawrence. As part of the Thursday evening The Point also hosts new post-show event Beyond the Stage. For only £25 audiences are given priority seats in the best spot in the house and are also invited to share drinks and canapés with the artists in the newly re-designed Atrium following the show.
Not content with just performing, Richard Alston Dance Company are also visiting Eastleigh prior to their show to work with Hampshire Youth Dance Company this February – now part of The Point after a twenty year friendship – on a curtain raiser on Friday 18th March. HYDC celebrates its 20th birthday this year, with two decades of work inspiring the next generation of dancing talent. The company will open the evening of dance with a contemporary adaptation of Gypsy Mix; this is an inspiring opportunity for the young dancers to work directly with the acclaimed and world-renowned company.
Richard Alston Dance Company’s programme of intimate dance is also part of the Dance Along the South Coast ticket offer in which you can see a show at one of the other participating venues for half the price if you purchase a full price ticket for this one. Tickets are £18 with £16 concessions and £14 for school groups.
