The Point is pleased to announce its popular Youth Theatre programme has been sponsored by locally-owned business Bathrooms by Unique with a  very generous donation.

Bathrooms by Unique is part of Unique Plumbing Supplies, a homegrown trade supplier which has been serving the local community for over ten years. The independent business was set-up by local resident Nick Khaira, who has seen the positive impact The Point Youth Theatre (PYT) has on young people.

Nick Khaira, Company Director at Bathrooms by Unique, said:

“As someone who was born in Eastleigh and raised there too, I wanted to give something back. I hope that the money offered to The Point Youth Theatre can help their bursary budget as I was brought up in a one parent family and could never afford to attend groups such as the Youth Theatre.

“If this can help someone in a similar situation then it is very worthwhile. Seeing the young people at The Point perform and, more importantly, have fun with their friends is something special and I feel privileged to be involved.”

The Point Youth Theatre is dedicated to supporting the development of young people aged 8-21 in a safe, accessible community environment. PYT offers weekly workshops that give participants the opportunity to take part in fun, empowering and challenging theatre regardless of age, background or ability. Every year 130 young people are engaged in practical workshops, performance opportunities and additional activities across The Point and The Berry Theatre.

“The generous donation from Bathrooms By Unique will ensure that Point Youth Theatre continues to offer accessible, empowering and professional theatre experiences for young people across Eastleigh Borough. Arts experiences are incredibly valuable to the emotional and intellectual development of young people and we are extremely grateful to Bathrooms By Unique for recognising this with their sponsorship.” – Lewis Mullins, Drama Development Officer

Senior members of The Point Youth Theatre are invited to take part in a year-long work placement within The Point’s Drama Team, with the opportunity to assist in delivering workshops and leading on the department’s pivotal fundraising progamme. The position is flexible and encourages creativity and the learning of new skills, useful for the next steps in the individual’s career.

Since 2015 members of The Point Youth Theatre have performed in 15 unique productions, including outdoor shows in new locations around the country and at festivals including three runs at the internationally recognised Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Bathrooms by Unique's generous donation will boost the production values of the scheme’s yearly shows, and fund the bursary scheme which provides young people in need of financial support the opportunity to take part in PYT.

This Christmas The Point Youth Theatre presents two festive productions featuring ensemble casts and written by local playwright Matt Beames. To book tickets to Sleeping Beauty, The Point’s headline festive show for families running 19th to 24th December, visit the What's On page.
