The Point selected its 2018/19 Associate Artists in February, supporting four new companies and artists in their journey towards creating new performance works and building their networks. Read below to find out what all of them are up to, four months into their 12 month Associateship with the Eastleigh arts hub.
Family company Filskit Theatre have been busy this spring with a UK tour of new show for babies, Kaleidoscope, alongside a tour in Shanghai of production Bright Sparks. The company are focusing on compiling their next Arts Council England application which will see them create a new piece of work for neuro-divergent children, in association with Flow Observatorium. Filskit are also creating circus piece Stella, a co-commission between the ARC in Stockton and The Civic, Barnsley.
Performer and dramaturg Grania Pickard is combining her time performing, teaching and researching new work. At the end of June the artist will tour He Ain’t Heavy, a full length theatre and circus show, to Dorchester Arts and Rose Theatre Kingston which forms part of a larger tour plan that will continue in October. As part of the He Ain’t Heavy tour, Grania is also leading circus workshops for young people with additional needs and their siblings.
Grania is also looking towards the start of R&D for a new show currently entitled Weight, with development set to begin in autumn.
Over the next few months Katie Dale-Everett Dance will be focusing on expanding company structure, an educational strand and testing out new approaches to new audiences. Artist in residence in schools within the borough, the company is continuing to research and develop new work Virtual You; a piece for young people aged 11-16 and their teachers and parents.
London-based theatre company House of Stray Cats are currently focusing on developing a new puppet show for family audiences and will meet with The Point’s Creative Producer Vicki Hargreaves to discuss plans for the next phase of their Associateship.
