Hampshire Youth Dance Company is a year-long training and performance opportunity for Hampshire’s talented young dancers aged 13-21 years. Supported by The Linbury Trust, the company follows a carefully designed programme to develop aspiring young dancers' technique, creative and performance skills.
Through demanding technique classes, regular and explorative creative sessions, and an advance training programme, HYDC takes aspiring young dancers to the next level of their career. The company perform across the country and are given the opportunity to work with leading industry professionals, offering passionate and committed young dancers a way to establish connections in the broader dance community. Previous members have been offered places at Rambert School, The Place, Laban, Northern Contemporary Dance School, London Studio Centre and Bird College.
Weekly rehearsals take place at The Point on Fridays from 5.30 to 8.30pm during term time.

Each year, The Point commissions a well-known dance company to create a work on HYDC during an intensive rehearsal period in February half-term, ahead of their tour. Previous companies include: Jasmin Vardimon Company, Shobana Jeyasingh Dance, Richard Alston Dance Company and Matthew Bourne’s New Adventures.
Rehearsal director Tory East choreographs a work which is put forward to U.Dance. In both 2016 and 2017, HYDC were successful in being selected to attend the three day national festival in July alongside 19 other youth dance companies.
HYDC also have the opportunity to work with two emerging choreographers from Rambert School as part of the Rambert School Commission project during the Easter holidays. This work is performed alongside the Rambert School third year student’s show.
Dancers from all backgrounds, dance styles and dance experience levels are encouraged to apply. We look for passion, potential and purpose amongst our company members. We encourage our dancers to arrive with an open mind, a desire to achieve and a readiness to work.
Dancers do not need previous experience in Ballet to join the company; this is offered to support their Contemporary training.
The audition process includes a two-hour workshop session, where applicants will take part in a contemporary technique class, improvisation and creative tasks. Please note that ballet will not be included in the audition. Dancers do not need to prepare anything in advance for this day.
