Southampton Airport helps European Aerial Dance Festival to fly high

Southampton Airport is supporting the tenth birthday edition of the annual European Aerial Dance Festival held at The Point, Eastleigh from the 5th to 17th August 2019

The popular and internationally acclaimed event is presented by aerial dance company Gravity & Levity and is also supported by Arts Council England.

The Festival is curated by Gravity & Levity’s Artistic Director Lindsey Butcher and offers inclusive intensive courses and workshops, taught by world class professional tutors.

The two-week packed programme of aerial activities includes courses in trapeze, Cyr-wheel, fabric and vertical dance, Gyrotonic®-based movement, aerial-hoop, Corde-Lisse and much more. Participants will also find a pop-up physio clinic and other specialist workshops for all levels and abilities alongside an exciting array of new workshops.

Southampton International Airport partnership with the Festival signifies the important role that EADF plays in the local community, with the event recognised for supporting the local economy and offering a great opportunity for nearby residents to attend dance, yoga, gymnastics and similar core-based classes taught by world-class professionals.

Neil Garwood, Southampton International Airport’s Managing Director said: “We are proud to support the Festival and the important role that it plays in the local community. The aerial festival is a great ‘fit’ for the airport – it’s all about flying high and it provides a great opportunity for local people and visitors from further afield to attend dance, yoga, gymnastics and similar core-based classes taught by world-class professionals.”

Councillor Derek Pretty, Cabinet Member for Economy on Eastleigh Borough Council, which owns and manages The Point, said:  “We’re delighted that Southampton International Airport have chosen to sponsor The European Aerial Dance Festival. The Point is looking forward to hosting the renowned event again and welcoming tutors and students from across the UK, Germany, the Netherlands, Austria and France and as far as Canada and Kuwait. We are thrilled that this event helps place Eastleigh firmly on the cultural map.”
